Collection: LUZ Collection
LUZ Collection, founded in 2015 by Chantale De Breceda, blends her fine arts background with her passion for textiles and indigenous craftsmanship. A Métis Nation of British Columbia member and descendant of the Cowessess First Nation of Saskatchewan, De Breceda draws on her heritage and upbringing, learning fiber arts from her mother, an indigenous textile artist.
Her journey began with a career in fine arts, showcasing her final exhibition in Japan in 2009, inspired by travels across the US and Canada in a vegetable oil-powered van. Transitioning to retail, she opened a bookshop and gallery in Joshua Tree, followed by YES in Los Angeles, where she introduced Mexican textiles to a wider audience.
After closing YES in 2017, De Breceda focused on collaborating directly with indigenous artisans in Mexico, sourcing traditional designs and creating her own. Guided by principles of respect, reciprocity, and sustainability, LUZ Collection highlights natural materials and traditional techniques passed down through generations, reflecting her commitment to ethical, fair trade-inspired practices and cultural preservation.
